Sludge thickening, purification plant

Water treatment, sludge thickening, chemical-physical plant

Sludge thickening is a simple process that leads to a reduction in the volume of sludge extracted from decanters from water treatment plants.

Thickening has the function of reducing the percentage of moisture and increasing its concentration.

This simple process can be physical, i.e. the thickening of the sludge is given by time using the specific gravity difference, or induced.

Sludge thickening in purification plants can be induced and forced by adding and dosing stoichiometrically the same polymer previously used to flocculate the water. This simple and economic precaution helps the overall reduction of sludge that has to be dewatered or to be disposed, and leads sludge dewatering systems to increase their percentage of dryness thanks to the increased drainage capacity acquired.

All this translates into a lower cost of disposal of the sludge produced by the water treatment system.
