The treatment phases in a chemical-physical plant find wide application in those cases where the wastewater to be treated at the entrance of the purification plant is characterized by a content of polluting substances mainly of inorganic or organic type, which is difficult or not biodegradable.

The pollutants, such as the surfactant or the refractory Cod, are made up of macromolecules that, due to the combined action of hydrogen peroxide and ferrous sulphate and/or ferrous chloride, are chemically destroyed by radical oxidation, with transformation of the functional groups into carboxylated groups.

The reaction that takes place in the chemical-physical purification plant equipped with Fenton reaction is that free radicals have a strong oxidizing capacity and attack the organic molecules in particular in correspondence of the unsaturated bonds by breaking the longest chains and oxidizing the functional groups present in the water of the chemical-physical purification plant.

The Fenton purification process that uses this chemical reaction system offers the advantage of being easy to conduct and not sensitive to abrupt changes in the incoming pollutant load, resulting very flexible because the calibration and dosing setting of the reagents allows a rather wide range of treatment.

The chemical-physical purification system that uses the Fenton process has a high treatment yield against organic substances and is widely used in those cases where the presence of surfactant and Cod is high.
