Mechanical sand quartz filtration, chemical-physical plant

Water treatment, quartzite or sand filtration, purification plants

The quartz filtration process is used for the removal of suspended solids present in the raw water or at the exit of the settling stage of water treatment plants.

The industrial filters are filled with quartzite arranged in filter beds of different granulometry, this solution allows to contain large quantities of solids and obtain an excellent final filtration degree without the various quartz filter layers creating preferential lanes to the water leaving the treatment system.

The filtration speed in the optimal pressure filters is 15 mt/hour, this allows a pressure drop not exceeding 0,5 bar and an efficient backwashing of the quartzite.

Filters filled with quartzite – quartzite must be equipped with a backwash system that reverses the water flow, allowing the removal of retained solids during the filtration service.

The most used fillings in purification plants are quartz, anthracite, zeolite and glass beads, which are chosen according to the characteristics of the water that has to be treated and purified.

Quartz or quartzite is the most used element in the mechanical pressure filtration of water treatment plants, anthracite and zeolite are a valid alternative, they have the same technical characteristics but have the advantage of being lighter and easier to counterbalance.

Lately on the market has been born a product composed of polished glass plates, the industrial filtration with this product is very efficient, the low weight of the filtering material greatly facilitates the backwashing operations, this solution can be used in the case of wastewater containing high concentrations of suspended solids, the limitation of the use in the filtration sector is its high cost compared to other solutions.

Pentacque inserts in its treatments filtration systems that are generally made up of two or more columns, equipped with plate diffusers or candle diffusers and the filling material, which varies in type and granulometry, according to the characteristics of the water that has to be treated and the type of purification used.

The piping of the filtration plants is usually made of PVC plastic material consisting of valves that manage all the “work and backwash” phases; all the management operations of the filtration plant can be supplied automatically by means of PVC ball valves with pneumatic actuators, differential pressure electors, managed by Plc or also in manual version.
